There's this passage in the book of Revelation where Jesus is sending seven letters to seven different churches. He ends each letter with the same question and statement
"Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words.
The Spirit blowing through the churches.” (The Message)
We all have different ways of thinking about God and the Bible and ourselves and the world around us. We think that the way we think is normal, but the reality is we are looking through a lens. Like a pair of glasses we don't even know we're wearing. We inherited these glasses from our parents and our teachers and our favorite TV shows and our religious, or not-so-religious upbringing. Throughout the scriptures and human history, it seems that God is constantly seeking to expand our vision. Giving us a new pair of glasses. Teaching us how to see. How to think. How to hear.
I believe these Wind Words are Always speaking. The Spirit is always moving. Jesus is always writing a letter to his churches.
The question has never been, “Does God have something to say?"
The question is, and will always be . . .
"Are your ears awake?"

Wind Words waking up to a new conversation about God yourself and the world edition by Rob Kaple Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Absolutely loved this book. It reads like a light, yet super meaningful conversation with a dear, familiar friend over coffee. It's humorous, relatable, inspiring, and full of hope regarding humanity and our relationship with the One we call God. I laughed so much (Like, out loud. Really, this guy's hilarious.) and teared up a good bit as well - so much of this content is incredibly moving, burden-lifting, and life-giving. I especially appreciate the sensitivity and awareness with which Kaple delivers these questions regarding our understanding of, and reactions to, God's way(s) of moving through and interacting with humanity. What could be delivered in a haughty and threatening way is instead communicated with humility and love. I can't wait to see what can happen in the world when more people get their hands on this book. Thank you, Rob, for sharing this gift with us all. It was truly a joy to read.
I was captivated by Rob's writing from the very beginning. He has an incredible gift of balancing deep, thought provoking content, but also keeping it relatable and light. Rob challenges the reader to explore how God is speaking to you today, and also challenges the way you may receive God. "If it doesn't look like Jesus, you might be interpreting it [the Bible] wrong." I finished this book feeling invited into something new and fresh in my relationship with God.
I LOVE THIS BOOK. It has really challenged my perspective of so many old theologies about the way I view how God spoke, speaks and is speaking to His people. Rob, gives very personal examples of how the spirit has spoken to him in certain seasons that REALLY resonated with me. Every word rang so much truth in my spirit. As I was reading I was like, "Wow, I've never viewed God in this way, at the same time saying, omgoodness...I Knew God was like this all along." This book has freed me up to truly stand in what I believe the spirit of God has been trying to tell me all along. My ears have truly been "awaken" to what God is saying right now, to the present, living church. Such a good book about hearing from the Spirit of God.
This book is a very relevant and light-hearted critique of some common perspectives in the Christian faith and an invitation to reframe how we think about and interact with God, Jesus, the Bible, ourselves, and our world. I believe that there are many prevalent ideas about God that are unhealthy and misrepresent the God of love that is spoken of in the Bible. I've seen only too often the consequences of these beliefs exclusion, powerlessness, hopelessness, judgement, the list goes on.
Rob's challenge to recognize the lens that we were given and explore what God is saying into our lives right now is so important especially in this time of cultural, political, and even religious polarity on current topics. It is a reminder that amidst the many voices in our lives--from world leaders to protestors to pastors--that there is a God that is trying to speak to us, give us an identity, remind us of his love. "Are our ears awake?"
This book light heartedly walks you through different parts of the bible tied in with the authors life. He explains things in a fresh way that makes passages and scripture feel new, while still being easy to read and flowing very smoothly. It made me stop to consider how I can better my relationship with God, family and friends. It also motivated me to be more open hearted, and gave me courage to do something personal I have been avoiding for a while. Are your ears awake? Get this book and join the movement.
This is the kind of book that feels like sitting down with an old friend over coffee. Rob's writing draws you in with his humor and honesty while simultaneously causing you to think differently about some of those things you've always heard about God and Jesus and religion. He starts by asking the question "are your ears awake"? - awake to what God may be speaking to you, right now. And then continues to ask more questions about how we see Jesus in light of our experiences and challenges the reader to a new perspective on listening to God. I HIGHLY recommend this read for any audience.
Like a great sermon or a better conversation, Wind Words is piercing, profound, and often very funny. I received an advanced copy, and I really enjoyed Kaple's simple, easy-to-understand style that accomplishes the incredibly difficult task of bringing simplicity out of complexity without extinguishing mystery. We have too few books like this, and I believe it can be a welcome bridge between generations exploring their common language of relationship with God.
This is my nephew-in-law's book. Nice and easy to read.
