We all know that the best recovery for almost getting raped...is actual rape. But I mean it's totally ok to ignore flat out being told repeatedly "no" and "stop" if the dude is in love and "can tell" she's really into him and really wants it despite her clear protests. In typical ridiculous romance novel fashion she is consumed by passion when he forces himself on her and his magic penis makes her fall in love. Ironically, same guy kills a man they are pretty sure raped someone. I mean how do they know that dude didn't just know that woman really wanted it too? Oh yeah, he's apparently a *gasp*...drug addict. Clearly a rapist.The super hot main guy characters naturally deflower the virginal super hot 20-something women...but are just torn up that this is disrespectful to the women's grandfather/ patriarch so are terribly conflicted about all the hot sex. In 2030. Because a grown woman's "virtue" apparently belongs to whatever male relative is around.
Gay jokes=high comedy. Repeatedly.
Brown people=criminals. Schizophrenia=babbling psychotic rapist/murderer.
Don't even get started on "drug addicts". Clearly the scum of the earth.
Lots of pearl clutching for a post apocalyptic story with lots of killing and shooting.

I loved the McClane series! The trials and tribulations of surviving an apocalypse, and how it changes people, or brings out in people, the good and/or the bad! In a way, this family was semi-prepared for societies fall, as far as having food & medical, and having the farm, somewhat secluded, and fairly easy to secure & defend. But it also showed tough decisions you have to make, kill or be killed type of thing, and making the correct decisions on who to help, or not help, stay far away from, and who to let in, or not, including relatives. (no spoiler) I just think, all around great story, great family, and.....great read!! I had trouble putting each book down, to cook dinner and stuff, lol, and when I finished one book....I couldn't wait to get started into the next one! In fact, I want to read more about this family, hopefully this year there is more, can't wait! My favorite character is Reagan, that's all me, I just love her spirit! Kate Morris did a fantastic job with this series!
If you are looking for some sort of TEOTWAWKI novel look elsewhere. This series does not really address the issues and concepts in that genre. This series is about relationships that just happen to be set in a sort of end of the world setting. I have read the 1st five and just re-read the 1st 3. I may re-read the 4th not sure. The 3rd ends very well for a conclusion and maybe the author should have stopped there. The 1st book is a good introduction to the characters. The second book the author gives really good insight into how we judge ourselves and how others see us particularly between 2 secondary characters. I really enjoyed the development of the Kelly/Hannah relationship. But this book the author gives and amazing insight into the concept of real love. Shadowlands with Winger and Hopkins does the same thing with a different setting. Love is painful when Reagan says it hurts it shows a true understanding of the cost of love. I know the cost of love. My ex left me and our son some 30 years ago. She traded the real love of husband and family for her narcissistic shadow of love (professionally diagnosed). Reagan makes a different choice
Damned fine read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with Great Uncle Peter and the less than savory crew he brought to the farm. One pregnant woman and a young boy are desperately ill with a disease neither Herb nor Reagan can figure. out. Seems four of those with them have already died from this disease. A disease even the extremely intelligent Reagan and her equally talented grandfather have never seen. They have quarantined the sick in the Med Shed and take very precaution when dealing with them.
The rest of the people in Uncle Peters party are less than useless. The kids, Sam, Simon and Huntley are doing all the work while the rest of them give orders. None of the kids will speak with anyone about what's really going on. Something is very wrong with the whole thing and Derek, John and Kelly would like to kick the lot of them off the farm because they all know what trouble looks like.
Derek wanted to throw them off the farm but Grams is still Peters sister. Derek, John and Kelly set boundaries and limits on these people. They are not allowed to approach the house or barns and have to stay in the designated spot they are parked in. Of course its hard for the guys to keep an eye on them at all times because running the farm is a full time job and the three of them handle most everything as well as security.
John loves Reagan but can't get her to admit she has feelings for him. She seems totally clueless about the relationship between men and women and John wish's he knew exactly what happened to her at Columbia. . John and Jacob share Reagans room with her for security reasons. Her window has the best view of the farm which enables John to keep a close eye on the freeloaders.
So begins a damned fine read.
This one has John, Reagan, Kelly, Derek, Sue, Hannah, Herb, Grams, Uncle Peter and his pack of losers, Simon, Sam, and Huntley who have been abused, a Kelly and Hannah who marry, a Reagan who finds out more about John, Derek and Kelly's special forces abilities, a Reagan who finds out John has many service medals, one of which is the Congressional Medal of Honor, a John who could care less about medals, a John who doesn't think he deserves them because men died, Uncle Peter and his losers trying to take over the farm, a sad tale involving Sam, a Sam who's been raped and abused by one nasty little S**t named Bobby, an ambush by Peters losers, a John, Derek and Kelly who kill them, a John who has finally had enough of Reagan and decides to take Jacob and move to an abandoned farm down the road, a Reagan who finally realizes what love is all about and the family McClan doing what it takes to stay alive, survive live and love.
